The Studio 86 Sessions, Volume 3

“Friends” Throwdown

This week I have two versions of “That’s What Friends Are For” (recorded by Dionne Warwick and Friends in 1985) that I found about a year apart. They’re by different groups of girls and have different arrangements.

First up:

Us: That’s What Friends Are For

Recorded at Center Stage with locations across the United States and in New Zealand.

vs.

Friends: That’s What Friends Are For

This one was recorded by “Rhonda, April, Jill, Eron, Michelle, Kilee and me” in 1990. The spoken dedication before the song says “I dedicate this song to us ‘cuz we’re best friends forever.” If they were such eternal friends, why did this memento end up at the Goodwill a scant nine years later?
