Winnetou III
Winnetou was a series of novels by German writer Karl May set in the American west. The title character was an Apache Indian who was befriended by the first-person narrator of the books, Old Shatterhand. The books were turned into a series of successful movies that were shot in Yugoslavia and starred French actor Pierre Brice as Winnetou, usually paired with Lex Barker as Old Shatterhand. This record is not a movie soundtrack, as I originally thought, but a Hörspiel (radio play) with different actors.

Dark by 5:00 for the drive home from work. Yuck.

November 4, 2007
I got ambitious this weekend and finally rounded up all my obsolete computers and peripherals (zip drive, printer, two flatbed scanners, etc.) to donate to a place that will find new uses for them instead of just recycling them for component materials.

Here it all is, stacked up in my back porch (the cat carrier is not part of this mountain of crap). The next step is to move everything to the car which will require several trips spread over a few days, and then the final step is to chauffeur this stuff around town for a few weeks until I finally get around to delivering it to its ultimate destination.

Before packing my old Powermac 7600, I scrubbed the harddrive by reinstalling the operating system it came with back in 1996 (OS 7.5.3). It definitely felt like I was giving it a lobotomy. I expected it to start singing “Daisy, Daisy.” It was my first computer, it was hideously expensive, and it served me well through my community college career and beyond. It’s still in fine working order, unlike my next computer, a secondhand iMac that wiped out a year’s worth of files when it went down (I’ve learned my lesson). I hope someone will get some use out of it.

Coolest Hawaiian shirt I’ve seen in some time. Too small, of course.

Heino: Die schönsten Volkslieder der Welt
Heino’s pretty much a shoe-in for Record Cover of the Week any time I find him. This cover’s pretty good - it’s got the signature platinum locks, those iconic dark glasses (not as dark as they would later become), and an armful of poodles. But the back cover is even better:

Those frisky stewardesses seem to be having a good time. Did they exit the airplane across the wing? But it doesn’t stop there! There’s a gatefold sleeve with a booklet. Here’s Heino in performance:

Stylin’! I dig the cut of the jacket, the white turtleneck (how awesome would it be if he was wearing a peace medallion?) and those killer patent leather shoes. But I’ve saved the best for last. Here’s a little photo essay I’ve put together I call:
The Heino Effect on Children

2. Bewilderment.

3. Zombie-like trance.
